Help Me Unscramble

Crossword Solver

Know some of the letters in a crossword clue but not all of them? Enter a pattern using "?" for each unknown letter and find every word that fits.

Use "?" for each letter you don't know, e.g. "c?t??" for a 5-letter word starting with C and T as the third letter.

How the crossword solver works

Type the letters you already have in their correct positions, and use "?" for every blank square. For example, "c?t??" looks for a 5-letter word that starts with C, has T as its third letter, and can be anything in the other spots. Hit Find Words to see every dictionary word that matches the pattern.

The pattern length sets the word length automatically, so a 7-character pattern only matches 7-letter words — no separate length filter needed. This works well for standard crosswords, cryptic crosswords where you've already worked out a few crossing letters, and word games like Wordscapes or Text Twist that show blank tiles for a word of a known length. If you know every letter already and just want to confirm the word is valid, you can also enter the full word with no "?" characters at all.

Frequently asked questions

Type the letters you already know in their correct positions and use "?" for every blank square — for example, "c?t??" matches a 5-letter word starting with C, with T as its third letter.
Does the pattern length matter?
Yes — the pattern length sets the word length automatically, so a 7-character pattern only matches 7-letter words. There is no separate length filter to set.
What kinds of puzzles is this useful for?
Standard and cryptic crosswords where you already have some crossing letters, plus word games like Wordscapes or Text Twist that show blank tiles for a word of known length.
